From concept through planning and on to completion, Zone 5 organized an “educational excellence” event for the Intel Corporation that gained statewide media coverage and included the Honorable Governor David A. Paterson. This celebration of the bright young minds of New York State students took place on April 22 at the State Room in Albany.

In an effort to draw attention to Intel’s lasting commitment to education and innovation, Zone 5 created this event to honor students and educators of the Intel Science Talent Search, Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and Intel Schools of Distinction.

The statewide event drew more than 100 students and educators to Albany along with New York State Commissioner of Education Richard Mills and New York State United Teachers Vice President Maria Niera.  Niera honored George Baldo, the program director at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, New York. Each year, Ward Melville produces a large number of students in the Intel Science Talent Search.

Commissioner Mills honored the staff of Townsend Harris High School in Queens. Townsend Harris received a 2008 Intel Schools of Distinction Award, one of only six schools in the country.

“New York State consistently shines as a national educational leader,” said Shelly Esque, Vice President, Legal and Corporate Affairs, Intel Corporation. in honoring Governor Paterson. “The State’s commitment to education is only matched by the dedicated administrators, teachers and students who strive each day to push the boundaries of innovation.” Governor Paterson praised the students and teachers for their dedication as well as Intel for its steadfast commitment to shaping the science leaders of the future.

Zone 5 managed every aspect of this event from initial concept and planning to event management, graphic and creative design, the creation of an event-specific website, direct mail, display graphics and production, media relations, photography, speech writing and event coverage.
